The Blazers of UAB are off this week as they look to keep their win streak rolling against the University of South Alabama Jaguars next week. That being said, UAB has had a hot start to the 2019 season. The Blazer offense led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Tyler Johnston III has already accounted for 692 total offensive yards. Johnston has passed for 433 of those yards going 23-for-43 with five touchdowns and only one interception.
To add to the offensive firepower, UAB’s offensive line, comprised of a junior, two redshirt juniors, and two redshirt seniors has not allowed a single sack in the first two games. The line has also helped the Blazers record 259 rushing yards- the majority coming from junior running back Spencer Brown. Brown has racked up 119 yards on only 39 total attempts. In total, the Blazer offense has scored six offensive touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, the Blazer defense is a force to be reckoned with, only allowing an average of 19.5 points per game. They have been responsible for eight total sacks for 40 yards. In addition, the defense has caused five fumbles, three of which they got back. Redshirt senior defensive lineman Garrett Marino and redshirt sophomore linebacker Noah Wilder both lead the team in tackles with 13. Will Boler, a redshirt sophomore safety also contributes with an interception against Alabama State in the season opener.
UAB is off this week, but their opponent next week, (1-1) South Alabama faces (2-0) Memphis at 2:30 CT on ESPNU.
